Will the labour disruption affect my OSAP status?
At this time, Student Financial Services is continuing to process OSAP application forms, confirm your registration status and request your OSAP funds to be released based on your current full-time registration status.
Please note that your OSAP entitlement may be affected if you drop courses. If you drop your course load to less than 60% or 18 credits (e.g. 9 credits per term), or drop to less than 40% or 12 credits (e.g. 6 credits per term) if you are a student with a permanent disability, you will be considered a part-time student and therefore not eligible for the full OSAP amount. For details visit the OSAP website.
I want to register for summer courses. Can I also apply for OSAP?
Yes. Student Financial Services is reviewing and processing summer OSAP applications. If you’re planning to register in courses and need to apply for financial support, complete the summer OSAP application as soon as possible to ensure that your funds are available when classes begin.
For information about eligibility and the processing of the summer OSAP application, visit the OSAP website.
Due to the labour disruption, will the payment deadline for fees still owing for the fall/winter session be extended?
At this time, there are no changes anticipated to the academic calendar and the 2018 dates and deadlines will proceed as scheduled. If you have questions concerning your financial situation, visit Registrarial Services to consult with a Financial Aid Advisor. Check the Labour Updates website regularly and register for e-mail updates to stay informed about labour disruption developments.
I already have scheduled commitments and plans (e.g. travel, employment, childcare, etc.) beginning after the term ends. What will happen if the term is extended? Will I receive a refund?
In the event of a rescheduled term, options will be available for students to complete course work once the labour disruption has ended. Multiple accommodations and remediation options will be determined if the labour disruption progresses.
In the meantime, consult this website for updates and refer to my.yorku.ca and www.yorku.ca/coursestatus for updates. Check your email regularly to stay informed of developments regarding the labour disruption.
If I work full-time during the disruption and make more money than OSAP allows for the fall/winter 2017/2018 session, will I be penalized by OSAP?
Students are required to update their OSAP application promptly with income changes during the study period indicated on their OSAP file. A change in income may or may not affect a student’s OSAP assessment depending on the study period expenses and other financial resources. The income update form can be found here.
